Episode 1: The Phytotron
Plant developmental geneticist Dr April Wynn introduces the phytotron, a carefully-maintained specialized grow chamber for test plants. It’s full of the latest round of experiments on one of her favorite plants for gene manipulation.

Episode 2: The Botany Club
UMW Botany Club founder and President, Chandler Carlson, introduces the club — and then he introduces the purple sweet potato! Everybody’s looking forward to the sweet potato fries.

Episode 3: The Community Garden
Environmental geology student Jack Lenier takes a visit to the Community Garden, where fresh vegetables and herbs are grown by different people for their own enjoyment and cuisine. It’s open to everyone, whether you’re a student, faculty, or a nearby resident, and it’s a great place to learn and to relax.

Episode 4: Dorm Room Plants: Arrowhead Vine
Julia Rizzo, a Biology and Secondary Education major, shows off her lovely arrowhead vine and teaches us a little about its care. Plants can make pretty nice dorm-room companions!

Maddie Kimmitz gives us a peek at her snake plant, a perfect student houseplant due to its low light and water requirements. Not just an excellent piece of dorm room decor, this plant also helps clean the air!

Director of Landscape and Grounds, Holly Chichester introduces the university’s Pollinator Garden. Pollinators are the hub of our ecosystem and are vitally important to birds, bees, butterflies and students!
